Spirit Week Frivolity

Lots of creativity in this class!  The girls are having a wonderful time, and in spite of the diversion, are still managing to learn some math, take notes, read a corresponding novel, and also read some of the most creative vocabulary stories that I have heard in a long time. I think that we are going to be in good shape for the vocabulary test tomorrow. Such enthusiasm!  Tomorrow morning we have a special activity with the 8th grade.  I love to see the girls that I have taught back in their old fourth grade classroom with my new Fourthies.  It should be a very fun start to the day.

A Happening in M06

Wonder what is happening in M06, the Roberts' class?  This may have you scratching your head in wonderment, but watch us as we make our way through an individual research and collaborative artistic rendition of the famous people the girls are researching.  This class is on fire, and I wish you could hear the learning that is taking place.  By the time you come for conferences in October, you will have an opportunity to see the final result!

Pixilations, Constructions, and All That Stuff

The girls had a great week of studying circle constructions.  The room was alive with laughter as they learned to use a compass and discovered how to draw a square from a circle.  Don't know how?  Ask your daughters.  They also drew concentric circles and are making designs with their compasses. It seems that this is quite an artistic group of girls.  Their Paul Klee-inspired geometric watercolors are beautiful.  Look for them soon on a wall!  By the way, this is Fourthie Math!

Bet you didn't know that this was the International Day(Week) of the Dot! Ask your daughter how to pixilate yourself.  There was a lot of energy expended on the laptops as all of the girls learned about pixilating.  QR Coded math problem solving is up next!

As promised, the fourth grade team, led by our techie guru, Judy McCallum, will host a technology night for all of you who are interested.   It will be held on October 2 at 6:30 in Judy McCallum's room
M02.  This will be an opportunity for you to learn about the technology your daughters will be using this year.

We're On Our Way!

The air of excitement in the class was palpable last week.  I don't know when I have seen a group of girls so thrilled to be back in school.  Amazingly, there was no complaining about work, which was quite wonderful, considering we are all still making the transition from summer mode. The binders are stuffed with paper, assignment pads ready to go, laptops reconfigured for the new year, and we're off! We've even started our geometry unit in math...mostly review, so no worries.
It's going to be a great year!

Parents' Night is Thursday, September 11.  It begins at 6:00.  Dr. Kapetanis is in charge of those details, so stay tuned.  I'm looking forward to seeing you on that special night.

The girls will receive their Special Schedules tomorrow, but I thought you might like a copy this weekend, so see below.

Great First Day with the Fourthies

The Fourthies were only in school for half a day, but in that short span of time they learned how raise and lower the flag.  This is a Fourthie privilege, and the girls are very excited to have this new responsibility.  We did not have internet access this morning, so that limited some of the fun activities we had planned, but tomorrow all should be well!  Their binders are organized, and they are ready to go!

Here are a few pictures from today!  The flag raising, and....ask the girls how they saved a Gummie Worm named Samantha today!
